How can the cross of Christ comfort your daily life?

By bearing our greatest burden, will He not deliver us from every final trouble of heart? Christ and Him crucified is not only our way to God, but the demonstration of God’s love to us! His love is real, tangible, personal, relational, trustworthy, and powerful. That God Himself and not a mere emissary has come for our comfort is comfort enough (John 14:1).

In the cross, Christ has suffered the deepest trouble of heart in order to put away every cause of trouble forever. His suffering has rendered all our troubles temporary. His suffering has placed a definitive limit on all our pain. His suffering has confined all our disappointments to this life. In love, He voluntarily reaped the terrible penalties from the sins that we have sown. His suffering has exhausted every just demand and final consequence of our crimes.

How does the gospel comfort us in daily life? In this: by taking care of our greatest need, He comforts us in every need.

The comfort of Christ is not fabricated. It is not myth. It is not wishful thinking. It is not philosophical. It is real, tangible, and only moments away.

Trials are part of life tainted by sin. The pain of life is not delusional, not unreal, not imaginary; but in Christ it is temporary. Your circumstances will change soon enough: in Christ, all the trouble of the world delivered in the intensity of Job’s suffering will then be known as “light momentary afflictions” … do you believe this?

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14:1).
